Ranji Trophy: Orissa end season with a draw vs Bengal

Orissa ended their campaign in 1994-95 Ranji Trophy season with a draw against Bengal. But host Bengal secured two points by taking first-innings lead in the four-day East Zone match which culminated at Eden Gardens in Kolkata today. Orissa failed to gain any point from the match despite giving the opposition a tough fight.

Opting to bowl after winning the toss, Odisha did well by dismissing Bengal for 250. Captain Ranji Biswal and pacer Rajiv Seth were joint-most-successful bowler for Orissa, taking four wickets each. But Orissa squandered the advantage of restricting Bengal to a modest total as they folded up for 244 and conceded a slender lead of six runs.

The crucial lead proved to be a big morale booster for Bengal, who took full control of the match by declaring their second innings at 390 for five. Arun Lal cornered glory for Bengal in the second innings, scoring a century. When the match ended in draw, Orissa were 130 for four, chasing a victory target of 397. Orissa batsman Rashmi Ranjan Parida made his first-class debut in this match.
